Meaty Spaghetti Sauce

Total Time: 40 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1 lb bulk italian sausage
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 2/3 ounce italian salad dressing mix (1 packet)
  • 1 tablespoon oregano (to taste)
  • 3 tablespoons basil (to taste)

Recipe

  • 1 in the bottom of a large dutch oven, brown the italian sausage with the onions, cooking until the meat is browned and the onion translucent.
  • 2 drain the fat and return meat and onions to the pan.
  • 3 add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce and tomatoe paste to pot.
  • 4 stir in italian dressing mix.
  • 5 add oregano and basil, allowing sauce to cook for at least 10 minutes between additions.
  • 6 taste the sauce before adding anything. the flavors intensify while the sauce simmers.
  • 7 cover and simmer over medium low heat, stirring occasionally.
  • 8 serve over pasta or use in lasagna.
