My Neighbor's Meat Sauce

Ingredients
- Servings: 16
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large yellow onion, fine dice
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 lbs ground beef (or a combination) or 2 lbs ground turkey (or a combination) or 2 lbs ground lamb (or a combination) or 2 lbs ground veal (or a combination)
- 1 (12 ounce) can tomato paste
- 2 (28 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon red pepper
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
Recipe
- 1 heat olive oil over medium low heat and sauté onion until soft and just starting to caramelize. add garlic and cook, stirring constantly, for 2 more minutes.
- 2 add meat and stir to break up slightly - no need to cook through.
- 3 add remaining ingredients and stir constantly for 5 minutes to break up the meat more thoroughly.
- 4 cook over low heat for 4-6 hours stirring every 15 minutes the first hour and then once or twice an hour after that.
- 5 add additional salt to taste - i have also added extra dried italian herbs, garlic and onion powder to punch up those flavors.
